In 1999, the New Hampshire Community Technical College System introduced Project Running Start, a partnership enabling high school students to enroll in NHCTC courses at a significant reduction in tuition. The courses are offered during the school day at high schools across the state, and in some high schools in Maine and Vermont. College courses range from general studies to career-specific courses.
Each high school faculty member who teaches an NHCTC course through Running Start is partnered with a Community Technical College faculty member, and meets or exceeds NHCTCS faculty qualifications. Many are also adjunct faculty at one of the Community Technical Colleges.
Students who successfully complete NHCTC courses through Project Running Start can request an official transcript from the NH Community Technical College. NHCTC courses taken through Running Start are accepted at NH's Community Technical Colleges, and at many other colleges and universities.
Course include Accounting, Biology, Calculus, Child Health, Safety & Nutrition, College Composition, Introduction to Graphic Design, Marketing, Medical Terminology, Microbiology, Psychology, Veterinary Technology and more. Course offerings vary by high school and from year to year. Check with your school administration for a list of courses offered.
"I went to Michigan State just a few credits shy of being a sophomore. I took Microbiology and General Biology I and II in the Biotech program at Seacoast School of Technology and Advanced Placement Biology at Winnacunnet High School. I was named a National Collegiate Scholar and I believe the advanced standing I earned through the NHCTC Running Start Program gave me an opportunity that my peers didn't experience in high school.""
Claire Antaya, graduate of Seacoast School of Technology
